150 - God's Compassion

'Jesus wept.' (John 11:35)

Sometimes, when times are hard, it can be easy to think that God is just some cold and distant person in the sky, watching from Heaven and not really caring what happens to us.

We couldn't be more wrong!

Just remember that time - 2000 years or so ago - when God, and all His holiness, power and might, was born into the world as a lowly Nazarene.

Remember that while He was fully God, He was also fully human.

Remember that He felt every swing of emotion that we did.

And when one of His best friends, Lazarus, lay dead in a tomb...when another friend, Mary, cried at His feet...Jesus wept

The shortest sentence in the Bible. But what a powerful one!

The God who breathed burning stars and called fierce lions into being - He cried.
And I bet it wasn't a single neat tear running down His cheek.
I bet it was the huge, shaking, uncontrollable sobs, when you can't breathe properly.

Don't ever say that He doesn't care.

Because He didn't just stand there and weep for us. He called us out of the dark tomb. And He walked in, to take our place.

And three days later, He left that tomb empty.

One day, neither He - nor us - will cry again. Ever.

Thank you God for your powerful compassion!
